third person:
She knew there was something odd about that day. The air tasted sweeter, the snow shone brighter – something! Even now, she can still remember every detail. It began like any other. The morning was as dark and as cold as city snow could make it, and she wished for someone to chase away her loneliness. She began her morning the way she always did, wandering from room to room, drawing back the heavy embroidered curtains that separated her night from day. A long warm shower and ten minutes in front of the mirror ensured she looked respectable enough to venture outside; her curly auburn hair tied loosely in a bunch on her head. She settled into the big musty armchair facing the window that once belonged to her father, with her cat Boo, and spent the hour it took for the sun to rise thinking about nothing in particular. When the sun filled the entire sky, she bid her only companion farewell, grabbed her coat, and headed out the door. Despite the relentless chill of the wind, the day was surprisingly beautiful – the sun casting a glow over the snow, making the buildings look as if they had been dipped in liquid gold, something she had never noticed before. She hurried down the slush-covered sidewalk, eager to reach the warmth of the corner-store. Once inside, she bought more than what she needed so that she wouldn’t have to make this journey again for a while, then stepped back out onto the frozen path, attempting to put her change into my purse whilst arranging her many bags. Clink! A coin fell from her frozen fingers, hitting the pavement and rolling several metres before coming to rest in a pile of melted snow. Sighing with frustration, she looked to the sidewalk, lowering her bundle of shopping so that she could put away the rest of her change then retrieve the escaped coin, but when she looked up again, a man held it in his outstretched palm. She looked at him for a moment, at his deep hazel eyes, his shock of dark hair, and choked out something she hoped had sounded like a thank you, her heart skipping beats. He once again offered his hand to her and introduced himself. His voice was like rich chocolate; his handshake melted her frozen fingers. It was at that moment she knew she would never be lonely again.
