Open Question: How do I help him improve his BS detector?
My boyfriend needs major, major help with his BS and scam spotting skills. He is an absolute moron when it comes to this type of thing. I try to give him hints and warnings on how to recognize scams that I know about, but it never helps. I tell him that if an offer is too good to be true, it probably is.
He is into this Neo-Tech thing, which is a scam. They wrote him a letter saying they’ve been researching him and he is special and he has powers and all this crap and they told him they have these secrets to share with him. They told him they want him in their secret society and he bought three freaking paperback books from them at $150 apiece. He still does not believe that Neo-Tech is a scam.
He has bought fake gold jewelry for hundreds of dollars off guys on the street.
I had to tell him not to cash a check from a Japanese businessman who contacted him online. He didn’t listen to me and put the check in his account to “see if it was real” even though I already told him it’s fake. He had to actually call the bank in Japan before he believed that it was a scam.
Just last week he ordered one of the “free safes” from World Monetary Exchange, and now he has downloaded that stupid fake Antivirus 7 virus. This is just in the past week! And I specifically warned him about fake antivirus viruses probably less than a week before he downloaded it.
Is he just plain too dumb to be alive? Can he be taught? What can I possibly tell him that might help?
Good point Bobby, but he hasn’t learned anything at all from experience so far! I’ve known him 3 years and he was falling for this crap long before I met him. I guess I’ll try telling him to google stuff. Maybe I’ll add ripoffreport or something to his favorites. Anybody else have a suggestion?? Has anyone overcome being really gullible? If so, how?
