Open Question: What to do with stubborn parents that mistreat a cat?
So yesterday, my parents adopted a cat from the animal shelter. When we brought it home, it was very playful and curious. However, it would not eat much of the dry food that we put out for it and drank very little water. I suggested to my parents that we buy the same brand of food that they used at the shelter or buy some wet cat food to see if the cat would eat it. Buy my stubborn parents said “Who cares. He’ll eat when he’s hungry” , and when I suggested changing the brand of dry cat food to try or switching to wet cat food, my parents said that they would feed it scraps from the table, or cook some chicken or canned fish for it, but that was all. Is this even healthy? Well, after one nights sleep, the cat was still very energetic. However, after my mom “accidently” stepped on its tail, it has become mopy and sleeps a lot. I could also notice that the cat’s eyes, which usually shine a bright gold color, have red spots around them. What should I do? Should I call the humane society and rat out my parents? I personally love that cat and would hate to see it lose its life so early. (He is one years old.)

It was quite tragic, after all. The damage was incredible, possibly reaching even artistic chaos. A child crawled out of a pile of rubble, one leg was twisted back in a horrific injury, and it had to scurry on all fours like a large hamster.
Rob looked closer at the face, the line of the eyebrows, the curve of the mouth, and decided it was a girl. She got her fingers into a tiny crevice and pulled out a gold ring. Rob stared impassively. Back home, that ring would get a good five hundred. The girl had no use for it. He could take it, offer her a candy bar in trade. She put the ring in her mouth and smiled at Rob. He looked away quickly. It was, after all, his last candy bar.
Far ahead of Rob was a desert. Far behind him was a forest. And in between was dust and wreckage and garbage and dead adults and living children and then there was Rob. He had never felt so insignificant. Back home, where Rob was, admirers were. At least, in the journalist photographer world. Here no one took a second look; the devastation had taken all of everyone’s attention.
When it had hit, most children were playing outdoors. Their parents were, of course, inside tall, shaky buildings, which couldn’t hold up against the weather. Therefore, now, the few adults left were hoarding children into groups and sending them out to scavenge for food and scraps of clothing.
Rob noted that they often found survivors who were terribly wounded, and then, those same children who were fighting over girls and committing minor acts of vandalism just last week would put the defenceless injured out of their misery with five or six quick bashes to the side of the head with a brick.
Rob flinched the first time he saw it, and turned his camera away. He wasn’t sure if he should scream at the child or help him. But he had vowed to not interfere, only observe. So he tried his best to ignore it and just shot pictures of human suffering, avoiding the more malevolent survival techniques.
The kid, still sucking on the gold ring, scuttled away on small hands and knees. There were a couple houses that still had the basics of four walls and a roof, and the survivors that could still move went there to sleep. Nights were freezing, with cold winds and acid rains. Rob had an army-issue tent. He would walk a whole mile into the desert each evening and sleep out there. It was safer, with no one to attack him or try to steal his tent.
“It’s just another job,” he often had to repeat to himself when faced with tragedy of this extent. “It’s just work. It’s not really this bad.”

Also please note that not all stories are supposed to be completed. If it feels ‘incomplete’ to you, well, that’s because life is incomplete. There’s no “Once up on a time…happily ever after, The End” deal in life, is there? I’m just pretty sick of people telling me my stories are incomplete. They’re supposed to be.
That said, tell me how to improve…please.
