Open Question: What categories of biological organisation do each of the following fit into?
I have been given a homework exercise for biology, and I don’t know what all the categories are suppose to be. I am stuck. My teacher has only been over it once, and I didn’t get any notes as it was the first day. I have worked some out already and remembered some categories. Please correct any work and help me with the rest. Sorry it is long. I just want to be thorough. And also, could I please have a definition for each level of biological organisation?

Ok, the task is:

Arrange the items into the main categories for the level of biological organisation. Write a subheading for each group, and a definition to explain why you have grouped the items together. There are some items that could go in more than one group. Try to pick them out and explain why they could be in more than one group.

And the items are:
oxygen atom..electron..neutron..proton..carbon atom..chloroplast..all the plants and animals in the world plus physical factors..all the bacteria in your colon..carbon dioxide molecule.sugar molecule..fat molecule..bird..mitochondrion..blood..ribosome..phloem..nerve cell..meristematic cell.. muscle cell..xylem..nucleus..heart..me..red blood cell..reproductive system..all the gold fish in a pool..all the grass, worms, beetles, sheep in a field..paramecium..digestive system..stomach..blood..tree..all the animals and plants on a rocky shore plus physical factors such as waves, water, temperature, salinity etc.. dog, all the deer on a mountain..seed..all the fungi, bacteria and protozoa on a piece of rotting bread.. all the plants, fish, worms and bacteria in a pond.. all the mangroves, crabs, and amphibians and mud, water, and temperature in a mangrove swamp…

And this is what I’ve got on a scrap piece of paper trying to work it out..

What are parts of an atom called? eg. electron, neutron and proton

Atoms:oxygen atom, carbon atom.
Organelle: Chloroplast(?), nucleus

Is cell a category?

Organs:lung, stomach, heart.

What about reproductive and digestive system? Because they are a group of organs? Is there a group for a collection of organs? Doe this fit into 2 categories?

Organisms: bird, me , tree, dog, seed(?)

Population:all the goldfish in a pond, all the deer on a mountain.

Community: All the grass, worms bacteria, beetles, sheep in a field, all the animals and plants on a rocky shore plus physical factors such as waves water, temperature, salinity etc.(Or is this an ecosystem? Or both community and ecosystem? Is ecosystem a category?), all the plants, fish, worms and bacteria in a pond.

Biosphere:All living things in the world, all the plants and animals in the world plus physical factors..

Thank you. Any information will be a great learing curve for me.
