Open Question: Where could I sell my alexandrite ring?
I have a 14k gold ring with 15 alexandrite small round stones and several very small diamonds. The bring is aprox 8 years old but has never been worn. I was given the ring as a present but was recently advised as to how rare alexandrite is and its gem potentitals to change colour etc. I want to sell the ring but am having trouble finding anyone to buy the ring for anything other than scrap gold metal value. The ring cost £460 new and I therefore refuse to give this away for £30. Could anyone point me in the direction of a gem lover who would appreciate the alexandrite or to someone who would be interested in buying? I can provide photos if necessary.

Prologue

Devastatingly cold water of the North Ocean crashed onto the high rocky cliffs of the small isolated island, Vonnom. A mile or so from the cliffs, deep in the thick pine forest were the old ruins of a large castle left abandoned for centuries. The island seemed uninhabitable with the constant, strong ocean winds and the huge Black Wolves that mauled any living thing and ate every scrap of food that was on the terrible place. Yet the reality of it was many people lived there though they dwelled far underground where they were naught but quick shadows in the night.

More than fifty feet below the castle were many rooms and a large labyrinth of torch lit halls and corridors. A tall, cloaked figure strode quickly across a twisting stone hall and stopped at an iron door where two other beings stood at attention, each also wearing hooded black cloaks. The three stood there silent for a while then the one that had just arrived spoke in a low and tired sounding voice.

“Is he really in there,” he asked the guard on the left.

“Yes sire; he is,” said the guard he’d addressed.

“Let me in then,” the tall one demanded sharply.

The two unlocked two bolts and a padlock with a long rusted key and tugged the thick iron door open. The taller one stepped three feet through the door and the others followed him until he spun around and simply said, “Stay. I go alone.” Without looking back he heard the iron door slam and continued on down another pitch black hall.

He unbolted another door that was shorter than the first then stepped inside a pitch black room. A match struck the wall causing eerie, flickering shadows on the man’s long, slender nose and thick silver moustache. He knelt on one knee and touched the match to a ledge jotting a foot out of the cold stone wall. There was a loud whoosh and a long trail of fire sped down the ledge a ways then again and again and again then finally the two trails of orange and red flame met where the shadow was standing. There was now a square path of flame all the way around the large square room’s perimeter, revealing its true massive size.

In the nearest corner of the room was a small whimpering growl. The cloaked figure turned his head sharply toward it. The thing that made the sound was a wretched thing that was small and hunched over. It was wearing a tattered and torn up cloak that looked like it used to be silver with gold lining but was now torn and discolored. The larger figure walked slowly over to it. The thick chains on the smaller creatures feet clanked as the larger one grabbed it by its cloak collar and lifted the smaller creature nearly three feet off the ground. He pulled its head close to his mouth and whispered three simple words to it.

“Where is it,” he asked a slow sing-song voice.

The prisoner did not answer but only whimpered some more. The taller shadow suddenly threw the wretched creature against the dirty stone wall with enough force to kill it but it just stumbled once then stood up staring at its torturer. The tall figure shouted at the top of his lungs.

“WHERE IS IT? I KNOW THAT YOU KNOW WHERE IT IS SO DON’T BOTHER PRETENDING YOU DON’T KNOW! IF YOU DON’T SPEAK QUICKLY I WILL SKIN YOU ALIVE! IF YOU WRETCHED CREATURES HAVE A BRAIN IN THOSE SMALL SKULLS OF YOURS THAT SHOULD DEFINATLY NOT BE WHAT YOU WANT,” screamed the cloaked figure lowering his voice once more. “Tell me now or die a terrible death, the choice is yours!”

It growled and stared at its captor with anguish and pure hate in its eyes. The creature thought for a moment this scumbag will kill me anyway even if I do tell him; it might just be less painful… It would be betrayal of my solemn oath to Oliver Namrish to tell. Not only my solemn oath, but his last wish… wait, I know what I will do. Oh, Zannar help me, be with me, give me strength…If only Oliver where here now! It was said by the prophecy that he would be the one to—

His thoughts where cut short by the loud shhhriiiiinggg of his captor’s sword being drawn from his scabbard. The captive spoke as quickly as he possibly could.

“It is hidden well in the Whitetree Forest on Island Deltratia to the far South! It is in a large cave at the top of Zannar’s peak. Once you are in the cave there is a large burrow like thing, it is in a small metal box. I swear on Captain Oliver Namr—

Again the captive was cut short by his captor kicking him hard in the stomach and pinning him down to the stone floor with his black boot. “Do not say that name in my presence,” he screamed pushing down hard on the helpless captive’s throat. When the small creature’s large eyes started to roll back in his head the torturer took his foot off the prisoner then spoke in a quiet and urgent voice.

“You swear that it is where you say?”

The prisoner was lying prone on the ground and coughed three times then rasped out one word. “Y-yes.”
