Resolved Question: Should I buy a clarity enhanced diamond?
A local jewelry store in my city is going out of business. I can get a fantastic deal on a diamond and need some advice. The stone is 1.39 carats, VS2, VG cut, and a G color rating. I can purchase it for $3200. Also, the store has an A+ rating by the Better Business Bureau, so it’s unlikely that they would cheat me. However, I can’t get any certification with the stone except for the store’s own appraisal. Should I buy it?

Resolved Question: Is it illegal not to try to find the owner if you find something valuable?
My fiancee lost his gold and diamond ring walking home from work late at night (the cold made his fingers shrink and it slipped off). We filed a police report the next day, and took a description/photo of the ring to every pawn shop and jewelry store in town. The police said pawn tickets don’t give a good description of the item, so it was our responsibility to take fliers around if we ever wanted to see it again. 3 different places said a lady had been in trying to sell his ring (it’s very unique, and we have a photo from a appraisal). I guess she was trying to find where would give her the best price. The police said if a pawnshop buys it, they have to turn it over because there is a report, proof of ownership and it will be returned to him.

If she sells it, will she get in trouble for finding something obviously valuable and not turning it into the police? I mean it is definitely morally wrong of her, but is it illegal?

I’m hoping good karma will work in our favor on this. I found a little necklace last year, which when I found out it was diamond, I turned into the police. I got a very nice thank you not from the owner in the mail. Hope me being a responsible honest person in a similar situation helps bring it back.
