Anna hid under the floorboards, peeping through the cracks above her. She saw the glinting silver blade make a light scratch across her mother’s throat. Watching in terror she focused as the pressure became firmer across her mother’s skin, beckoning for it to tear open.
In front of their fireplace, her mother’s hands were clasped together and raised above her head. She cried in horror, and pleaded to the strange man in red and silver armour to leave the household and spare her family’s lives.
“We are simple farmers, we know nothing of history. We harvest food and sell it to those who need it. Please we have done nothing wrong, let us be.”
Anna turned to look at the man; his armour reflected the flames from the fire place. The flickering movements danced upon his chest-plate, almost cheering him on to kill. He grabbed her mother’s neck firming his grip upon her skin.
“Do not lie to me! I am no fool and I will kill you. You have one more chance, give me the first born and I will spare your son and husband’s lives.”
Her mother’s voice grew weak as she struggled to stay calm amongst the chaos;
“I told you I have but one son, there are no more children!”
Anna saw the man’s expression suddenly turn furious. She firmly pressed her hand across her mouth to prevent herself from screaming. Her eyes widened in panic as the man tugged her mother’s hair back, fully exposing her neck. The tip of his sword pressed against her jugular, aching to seal her fate.
“You’re a filthy and soulless Darkian! If you shall not tell me where the first born is, then I shall tear this house apart until I find them!”
Within minutes Anna’s floor was painted in her family’s blood. Her ears became numb from the shrieks and cries of her brother and mother, as the man’s blade ripped open their flesh. Her eyes filled with tears blurring her vision, making only the flames in the fire visible. Merged together in colour, the red and orange flames waved in front of her gaze, imitating the pattern of the waved blood along the floor.
The man took his sword and slit open her mother’s dress, exposing her chest. He knelt down on one knee and traced his hand across her throat. A gold chain hit his fingertips, revealing a tear-shaped pendant encrusted in sapphires. He quickly ripped the chain from her mother’s neck and wrapped it in a blood stained tissue.
The house went dark as the man kicked the cauldron in anger, extinguishing the fire. The door slammed and Anna quickly opened the trap door, racing over to her mother. In desperation she shook her shoulder as her cries grew stronger. Growing frantic she carried on, but her mother didn’t respond.
She stopped and found herself engrossed in the thudding of the horses gallop as the man rode away. Its rhythm felt as if it mocked her mother’s stilled heartbeat. As the sound grew faint, she looked into her mother’s eyes and held her hand. Anna knew her family died to protect her, and she must leave the house immediately. Grabbing her satchel and some coins, she raced out of the back door into the night.

Open Question: Was it constitutional for FDR to criminalized the possession of gold in 1933?
In 1933, U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued Executive Order 6102, which outlawed the private ownership of gold coins, gold bullion, and gold certificates by American citizens, forcing them to sell these to the Federal Reserve. As a result, the value of the gold held by the Federal Reserve increased from $4 billion to $12 billion between 1933 and 1937. This left the federal government with a large gold reserve and no place to store it. In 1936, the U.S. Treasury Department began construction of the United States Bullion Depository at Fort Knox, Kentucky, on land transferred from the military. The Gold Vault was completed in December 1936 for US $560,000, or $8.5 million in 2009 dollars. The site is located on what is now Bullion Boulevard at the intersection of Gold Vault Road.

Resolved Question: Why did FDR steal all of our gold and put it in Fort Knox?
In 1933, U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued Executive Order 6102, which outlawed the private ownership of gold coins, gold bullion, and gold certificates by American citizens, forcing them to sell these to the Federal Reserve. As a result, the value of the gold held by the Federal Reserve increased from $4 billion to $12 billion between 1933 and 1937.[1] This left the federal government with a large gold reserve and no place to store it.
The first gold shipments were made from January to July 1937. The majority of the United States’ gold reserves were gradually shipped to the site, including old bullion and newly made bars made from melted gold coins. Some intact coins were stored. The transfer used 500 rail cars and was sent by registered mail, protected by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.[citation needed]
