Open Question: Sony or Toshiba dvd players?

ive got a silver set, and i can get both these exact models somewhere for a cheap price.
the sony is completly black
toshiba is mainly silver but black in the middle.
they both have good specs but sony wins. but toshiba has the colour of my tv set and video set etc.
so which 1 should i buy
Open Question: Why do Sterling Silver turn my ears black?
I buy real sterling silver earrings and it turns my ears black. I’ve bought sterling silver, and just silver. I thought it might be the nickle in them. So for Christmas I got a pair of polished silver, hypoallergenic and nickle free. I wore them on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and the next day (I took them out at night). When I took them out the last night my ears had black on them (which a little wiped off)! What causes this? I know some will say because they are fake but I have bought real and fake and every single one of them does it. I just need some help?
Open Question: What do you think is the best netbook for under $500?
My Dell Inspiron laptop died over the holiday, so I’m looking to replace it. I’m thinking of going with a netbook because of the portability and since the only time I used the laptop was when I was on vacation or travelling on business. I really would like to focus on the Japanese brands, but I’m open to suggestions. And I’d like to get something with Windows Vista or 7, not XP.
I haven’t ruled out getting another laptop instead of a netbook, because we are really only talking about a 3 lb difference, right?! And I’m not sure that I will like the smaller screen of the netbook.
From my research, here are my favorites so far:
Sony Vaio - Can’t go wrong with a SONY, I own a lot of their other products. However, I understand that it only has 1GB of memory, and is not upgradeable. This isn’t so much of an issue now, but what about 2-3 years from now, might pose a problem.
Toshiba netboot - Similar to the Sony Vaio, $100 cheaper at Best Buy, comes in a choice of colors that the Vaio doesn’t offer, and is expandable to a 2GB memory. But what about durability? Is Toshiba going to last like the Sony product will?
Toshiba Satellite laptop - only $330 at Best Buy, so nearly $200 cheaper than the Sony Vaio, can expand up to 8GB of memory (!) but I understand that the speaker/sound is very poor, and it doesn’t have the built-in webcams like the above two netbooks. Plus of course it’s double the weight of the netbooks and only comes in silver or black. But with 8GB of memory, this is one I could probably use for years, assuming Toshiba has the durability.
Your ideas here please…
I understand that many Japanese brands are assembled in China, including Sony. However, my experience has been that Sony has higher standards of quality than do most American brands. I have owned both American and Japanese tech products ranging from MP3 players to digital cameras to DVD players to surround sound systems. In my experience the Japanese products, especially Sony are just better.
